West Fork 10-year-old named pride parade grand marshal

You guys remember Will Phillips, right?

He’s the 10-year-old from West Fork who made local and then national headlines after refusing to recite the Pledge of Allegiance until there truly is “liberty and justice for all,” particularly for gay people, who are not allowed to marry.

He’s the same local kid that John Stewart mentioned on The Daily Show back in November, and enlisted pro-wrestler Mick Foley to protect? Yeah, you guys remember.

Over the weekend, the folks at NWA Pride announced that the same 10-year-old activist will serve as the parade’s youngest ever grand marshal at their annual pride parade scheduled for Saturday on Dickson St.

“Will Phillips may be just over the age of 10 years old, but has done more in the support of the GLBT Community than many people 4 times his age,” reads the announcement from NWA Pride.

Will received a unanimous vote from parade organizers for grand marshal.

The parade begins at 10 a.m. in the parking lot behind Hugo’s, and will make its way down Meadow St., to East Ave, to Dickson St, and down West Avenue before ending in the Walton Arts Center parking lot.
