Garland Avenue improvements meeting set

And you thought the Garland Avenue widening talk was over. Not so fast.

The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department is holding a drop-in style meeting tonight (July 8) from 4 to 7 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church to discuss proposed improvements to Garland Avenue along the short stretch between Wedington Drive and North Janice Avenue.

The talk has been ongoing for years as proposals have been sent back and forth between the city and the state since AHTD first proposed a College Avenue-style five-lane plan. The most recent proposal, which Mayor Jordan took to the state last fall, calls for four lanes and a continuous median in between, with strategic breaks for a fifth turn lane. It also features bike lanes and sidewalks on both sides of the street.

We assume tonight’s meeting will provide a glimpse of the state’s most recent comeback.

“The public is invited to visit anytime during the scheduled hours to view displays, ask questions and offer comments,” reads a news release.
