Police chief Greg Tabor today announced that the Fayetteville Police Department will participate in the statewide “Obey the sign or Pay the Fine” campaign that takes place this week across Arkansas.

Fayetteville police are expected to intensify the enforcement of posted speed limits from Monday, July 16 through Sunday, July 22.

From the department:

Officers will stop and ticket anyone caught speeding, especially where most of our speed-related crashes occur. During the mobilization, officers will be out targeting and ticketing speeding drivers. Our goal is to save lives; the posted speed limit IS THE LAW.

“Speeding leads to death on our roadways,” said Colonel Bill Bryant, director of the Arkansas State Police and the Governor’s highway safety representative. “Higher speeds reduce a driver’s ability to steer safely around other vehicles, roadway hazards and unexpected highway exits or directions.”
