Giveaway: 3 Penny Acre CD and release party

This giveaway is now closed. Winners will be emailed Wednesday, June 16, 2010 and results will be posted on our blog.

It’s been nearly a year and a half since we profiled 3 Penny Acre on the night they released their debut CD. A lot has happened between February 2009 and today.

They were selected as an official showcase artist at the 2009 Folk Alliance Conference, voted “Best New Band” at the 2009 Northwest Arkansas Music Awards, opened for Yonder Mountain Stringband and Railroad Earth, and toured an 11-state region. The band returned for the third year in a row to the Mulberry Mountain Harvest Festival, and also at the 62nd Annual Ozark Folk Festival.

On June 20, the folk trio that Fayetteville should be thrilled to be able to claim will release their new CD titled “Highway 71,” at Greenhouse Grille. If you’d like to win a copy of the CD and a pair of tickets to the show, keep reading.

3 Penny Acre recorded the new album by themselves in a project studio set up in the living room of members Bryan and Bernice Hembree’s house. “It was an amazing way to approach this project,” said Bryan. “It gave us some freedom to do what we wanted to do and record when our schedules allowed. Kelly Mulhollan of Still on the Hill helped us along the way.”

Charlie Pilzer handled the final mastering. “Ezra Idlet, from Trout Fishing in America, recommended Charlie and got us in touch with him,” said Bryan. Pilzer’s Airshow Mastering has mastered a number of Keller Williams albums, the Utah Phillips tribute album, and Trout Fishing in America’s Grammy nominated albums.

For more from 3 Penny Acre, make sure to tune in to KUAF’s Ozarks at Large this weekend. The group recorded an interview with host Kyle Kellams this week. It will air on both the Friday and Sunday editions of the show. “Listeners will get preview of the new album,” said Hembree. “As usual,” he added, “Kyle gave a close listen to the album and adds some great insight.”
