Some local folks are organizing a Fayetteville Tweetup for this weekend, only, it’s not called a Tweetup, and it wasn’t organized on Twitter. A Facebookup doesn’t have the same ring to it, though.
Starting Friday July 23, and running through the 25, friends Laura McKinnon Harrison, Cindy Smith McAnarny, Mary Sugg Bassett, Kim and Janie Agee, and Free McClain have organized a weekend’s worth of events for folks with a past (or present) Fayetteville connection.
The concept for the event started, as lots of things seem to these days, on Facebook.
“It all came about back in February ’09, when we were ruminating on a Facebook thread about what we were planning for the warm weather season,” said organizer Kim Agee. “So we made a Facebook group and had a party at the end of July.”
Last year’s event consisted of a Friday night Happy Hour, Saturday morning picnic, and a Saturday night mixer. According to Agee, the first Fayetteville Reunion drew about 200 people.
This year, Agee says he expects Fayetteville ex-pats from all over the country to attend.
“We have people coming from Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Kentucky, and Missouri,” he said.
The Fayetteville Reunion is free to attend, outside of the cost of cover charges and drinks at the various activities scheduled. It is also open to anyone with a Fayetteville connection.
“It is mainly, first, last, and always, just for fun. We had a blast last year, and plan on a repeat this year,” Agee said. “Janie and I set out to do this with the thought that we’d have fun, keep the stress down, and get to see a bunch of old and new friends. So far we’ve succeeded.”
