Solid Waste and Recycling November Schedule

Fayetteville AR-The following information is about the Fayetteville Solid Waste and Recycling Division’s November schedule regarding Veteran’s Day holiday information, leaf removal information, screened compost available for sale, Transfer Station hours of operation, Compost Facility hours of operation, mulch distribution, Recycling Drop Off information, and the last Ward Bulky Waste Clean Up for this year.

Veteran’s Day Holiday information The Solid Waste and Recycling office and Compost Facility will be closed on Thursday, November 11th for the Veteran’s Day holiday. The normal trash and recycling collections for both commercial and residential customers will not be affected by the holiday and all routes will run as normally scheduled.

Fall leaf removal information The City of Fayetteville does not remove leaves curbside with the City’s street sweeper. Homeowners are responsible to properly manage leaves through the yardwaste collection program. Leaves can be placed in 30 gallon paper bags purchased at local retail stores or in unlined trash cans marked “yardwaste”. Collection occurs the same day as normal trash and recycling collection and must be placed curbside by 5:00 a.m. The Compost Facility can accept leaves, not in plastic bags, for free from Fayetteville residents. Information on “backyard composting” for leaves is available by calling Brian Pugh at 718-7685 or through e-mail at [email protected].

Compost Distribution Screened compost is now available while supplies last during normal operating hours (see compost facility operating hours below).

Only Fayetteville residents are allowed to purchase the compost and must show proof of residency through their water bill. No commercial customers or apartments are allowed to receive compost. Please bring a copy of a recent water bill showing solid waste charges for proof of residency. Residents will only be allowed to purchase one scoop for $20 plus tax when the compost is available. One scoop is approximately 2 ½ cubic yards or enough to fill the bed of a regular size pick up truck. Limiting to one scoop allows a chance for most residents to purchase the compost should they desire.

Transfer Station Hours The City’s Transfer Station for the disposal of solid waste is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 2pm, and Saturday from 8 am to 10 am. The fees for disposal are $40 per ton, $25 minimum or $6 per bag.

Compost Facility Hours The City’s Compost Facility at 1708 S. Armstrong Ave. is open during normal operating hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Weekend fall/winter hours are in effect and the site is open the first Saturday of each month from 8 am to noon. Residents of Fayetteville are allowed to drop off brush, leaves or grass during these hours but need to bring a recent water bill showing solid waste charges and proof of residency to drop off yard waste for free. Commercial landscapers and contractors are allowed to use the site for drop off purposes and normal fees apply.

Mulch Distribution Mulch will be made available during normal operating hours (see above) while supplies last. The fee for mulch is $10 per scoop (2 1/2 cubic yards) and is available to anyone.

Recycling Drop Off on S. Happy Hollow The Solid Waste and Recycling Division operates a recycling drop off center located just off 15th St. on S. Happy Hollow. The site is open 24 hours a day / 7 days a week to provide convenient recycling options. Volunteer groups are being sought to work a few hours on Saturdays to clean the site and provide education to those wishing to recycle. Please contact Brian Pugh at 718-7685 for more information.

Fall Ward Bulky Waste Clean Ups Solid Waste and Recycling has one remaining Ward Bulky Waste Clean Up this fall and will occur on Saturday, November 6th from 7 am to 2 pm. Fayetteville residents must bring a copy of the most recent water bill to prove residency. This clean up is for large items that do not fit into the normal weekly trash cart collections. For more information on what can be brought to the clean up please visit the Solid Waste and Recycling page on our website www.accessfayetteville.org or call the main office at (479) 575-8398. The location for the November 6th clean up is:

Ward 2 on November 6th Woodland Jr. High School (7 E. Poplar in front parking lot) and Church of Christ (310 W. Center St.).
