Vandergriff Elementary School 5th graders celebrate
world town planning day

The City of Fayetteville will partner with 5th graders at Vandergriff Elementary in order to add student voices to City Plan 2030. City staff will share information about urban design and city planning and facilitate a mock design activity with approximately 125 fifth graders. The workshop will take place in the Vandergriff Elementary School library from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2010.
The students will discuss and learn about urban design concepts and work in small groups to design a Greenfield site located near Vandergriff Elementary School and then present to workshop participants. Student projects will be on display during the community presentation of City Plan 2030 scheduled for February 2011.
This activity will also celebrate World Town Planning Day (WTPD), which was a day designated to recognize how urban, rural, and regional planning help to create healthy and vibrant communities. Founded in 1949, WTPD is celebrated on November 8 each year in approximately 30 countries on four continents as a way to promote awareness and support for community planning.
