Persimmon Street closed for culvert construction

Storm debris and flash flooding left several roads and bridges impassable in April, including West Persimmon Street near the West Side Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The city’s Transportation Division began replacement of a bridge culvert on Persimmon Street today (Aug. 15).

The existing bridge culvert failed earlier this summer due to damaged received during the spring flooding.

Construction of the culvert will require closing of Persimmon Street between 54th Avenue and Broyles Avenue to through traffic for approximately two weeks. The entire project is estimated to last six weeks.

Additional work will include construction of wing walls as well as shoulder and street repairs to the damaged area.

Detour routes will be posted to reroute traffic.
