Townies, rejoice. Chances are good that the lines at the bars in Fayetteville will be a bit shorter than normal this weekend.
Why? For one, the Razorbacks are off this weekend, so there will be no extra game traffic. For two, many local music lovers will be out on Mulberry Mountain for the Harvest Music Festival. For three, UA Students are off on Monday and Tuesday of next week for something called “Fall Break,” so some of them will probably be heading home for the weekend.
Don’t panic. There’s still plenty of fun to be had all over the place, we’re just thinking it will be a bit less crowded fun. Go for it.
Friday
It’s going to be a perfect weekend for camping and music on the Mulberry Mountain for the Yonder Mountain String Band Harvest Music Festival. Friday night, you can see Emmit-Nershi Band, Split Lip Rayfield, And Railroad Earth on the mainstage. Locals Groovement are on the Roost stage. Here’s the full lineup.

An Affair to Remember
Tulsa guitar-slinger Steve Pryor is kicking off the weekend at George’s Majestic Lounge for happy hour. Later on, Lucero will be back in town for a show with locals Benjamin Del Shreve. The Lucero show was originally planned for the AMP on Sept. 16, but was rescheduled due to the fact that they’ve been in the studio working on a new record. This show will sell out (if it hasn’t already). Better get your tickets.
If you’ve never had a chance to catch The Twilight Sloan in action, you’ll get another chance at Smoke & Barrel Tavern Friday night. The band is made up of twins Gary and Jim Sloan (formerly of Memphis Pencils), and their father, renowned blues musician Gary Alaska Sloan, and friends. If you like freaky-good musicians, this might be the show for you.
Want to know what films are coming to the Offshoot Film Fest this year? An Affair to Remember, the Offshoot Film Fest announcement gala is happening Friday night at Matt Miller Studios. Tickets are $50, and are available at seedlingfilm.com.
Saturday
If you get hungry on Saturday morning, you could head over to Fire Station No. 1 at 303 W. Center St. for the Fayetteville Fire Department’s annual pancake breakfast. Here’s more info on that.
There’s a rock show at George’s Majestic Lounge with Jarris, Two Elevens, and Dreamfast.
There’s another rock show at Smoke & Barrel Tavern, with St. Louis band Kentucky Knife Fight. They’re stopping in town on their way to Memphis for a show at the Hi-Tone with Jason Isbell. Also, Kentucky Knife Fight is one of the toughest band names we’ve ever heard.
Sunday
AMC’s The Walking Dead is back, and the folks at Smoke & Barrel are throwing a watch party Sunday night. Have you ever watched that show? It rules and starts at 8 p.m.
Botanical Garden of the Ozarks is hosting another Local, Fresh and Pasta cooking demo on Sunday. This one’s called Classic Italian, and it starts at 1:30 p.m.
