Fall 2011 Fayetteville A&P funding requests total over $430,000

The Fall 2011 A&P Fayetteville Advertising & Promotion Commission funding requests are in, and 30 event organizers are seeking a total of $433,745.

Fayetteville Underground, on the heels of a fundraising campaign announcement, submitted the largest request at $45,000, followed by the Arkansas High School Coaches All Star Games ($30,000), and the Arkansas High School Coaches Clinic ($27,500).

Organizers of the NWA Cheese Dip Classic requested $25,000 for their cheese dip competition and a new event called Fayetteville Foam Fest. Organizer John McClure originally planned to hold the first NWA Cheese Dip Classic in Fayetteville in September, but postponed the event until Spring 2012.

More familiar names on the list include TheatreSquared ($30,000), Matt Miller’s Mural Project ($13,000) and the Joe Martin Stage Race ($15,000).

It remains to be seen exactly how much money the commission will be able to distribute when they consider this round of requests on Nov. 14.

A&P Director Marilyn Heifner made it clear, however, that the $500,000 special request the commission granted to the Walton Arts Center to help fund a renovation of the Arkansas Music Pavilion in September would be paid from reserve funds, and would likely not effect the biannual distribution.

“You could pull $250,000 now and $250,000 next year and you probably wouldn’t even see a blip on the radar,” Heifner said at the September meeting.
