Residents march in the annual MLK Day March from the Walton Arts Center parking lot to the UA campus last year. This year’s event is set for 11:15 a.m. today.

It’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the second federal holiday of the year. It’s also a city holiday meaning Fayetteville City Hall is closed. Trash collection routes, however, will run as normal so if Monday is your trash day, make sure to place your garbage and recycling by the curb.

Members of the public last week got a chance to hear from David Johnson, one of the two final candidates in the running to be the Fayetteville Public Library’s new executive director. Next up is Steven Thomas, who will speak tomorrow at the library at 6 p.m.

Amos Eric Watts, 23, of Fayetteville, was arrested in connection with a Saturday afternoon armed robbery of a Metropolitan National Bank branch located at 4033 N. Shiloh Drive.
