One night in 1956, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins gathered at Sun Record Studios in Memphis for a one-time jam session.
A Memphis newspaper caught wind of the gathering, and dubbed the iconic foursome the “Million Dollar Quartet.” Sun Studio engineer Cowboy Jack Clement captured the session on tape, and the rest is rock and roll history.
In a few weeks, a musical about that legendary night makes its way to Fayetteville for a string of shows at Walton Arts Center beginning Feb. 21.
Harrison native Cody Slaughter stars as Elvis in the traveling production, which features classic songs such as “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Fever,” “That’s All Right,” “Sixteen Tons,” “Great Balls of Fire,” and more.
We’ve got two pairs of tickets to give away to the show. Try to win ’em.
How to enter
It’s kind of hard to imagine the modern day equivalent of a jam session like the one that happened that night at Sun Studio, mainly because we can’t think of any artists performing today that are as widely loved as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins were back in the day.
Leave a comment telling us who you think is the closest thing to a modern-day (still living) Elvis Presley, and you’re entered.
