Cox Communications to carry the SEC Network

Cox Communications announced Wednesday it will carry the SEC Network in all its markets when the network hits the airwaves next month.

The new network, which launches Aug. 14, will air more than 1,000 live events in its first year, including Arkansas’ first two football games at Auburn on Aug. 30 and at home against Nicholls State on Sept. 6.

Cox spokeswoman Kelly Zega said the network will be automatically included at no additional cost for any Cox digital subscriber in the Arkansas coverage area. For Cox markets that don’t have a SEC school located nearby (such as Omaha or Wichita), they will have access to the channel, but only through the Sports & Information tier.

AT&T U-verse, DISH and Google Fiber will also carry the SEC Network. Comcast officials said last week they are close to reaching an agreement to carry the new network.

The SEC Network is owned by Disney, which also owns ESPN.
