With another round of winter weather expected to hit sometime Wednesday morning, officials have announced that public schools in Fayetteville will be closed for the day.
“In the interest of the safety of our students and considering the weather forecast, the Fayetteville Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, March 4,” said Alan Wilbourn, the district’s public information officer, in a news release late Tuesday.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning in effect from 6 a.m. to midnight on Wednesday for Washington County. The forecast calls for rain turning to freezing rain, sleet, and then snow as cold air moves through the region.
Up to a quarter-inch of ice accumulation and three inches of snow and sleet are predicted on Wednesday that could result in hazardous travel conditions throughout Fayetteville and the surrounding area.
It’s the fourth closure of the school year for the district, which suspended classes Feb. 16-17 and then again Feb. 24.
