It’s a big day for the Razorbacks. The football team is taking on Virginia Tech in the Belk Bowl in Charlotte, and the basketballers open conference play versus Florida at Bud Walton Arena Thursday night. You could watch both for $15 at Bud Walton if you want. Here’s more info about that.

Also Thursday night, local musician and booking agent Travis Smith will get a friendly roasting from his friends at Ryleigh’s.

Friday night is looking like a good night for some music. George’s is celebrating 90 years in business with a weekend of tunes, starting with the legendary Cate Brothers band for happy hour at 6 p.m.

After that, there’s a free show with Mountain Sprout, Henry + The Invisibles, and Irie Lions. Happy birthday, George’s.

Also in tunes, there’s an excellent lineup of local rock bands at Smoke & Barrel with White Mansions (Travis Keymer of Teenagers new project), Sad Palimino, and Ten High.

Saturday, Dec. 31

Saturday is New Year’s Eve, and we already published a full list of parties and opportunities for a free glass of champagne earlier this week.

As a refresher, though, probably the biggest local party is on the Fayetteville square with Last Night Fayetteville. Main stage headliners will kick off at 7 p.m. at the Fayetteville Town Center with Handmade Moments, Arkansauce, The Silvershakers, and Fractal Sky. There are several other stages as well. Tickets are $30. Here’s the full schedule.

George’s Majestic Lounge’s 90th birthday celebration continues on New Year’s Eve featuring live music by Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe and Henry + The Invisibles. Tickets are $20, on sale now at George’s ticketing site.

Maxine’s will host a dance party with DJ Clunk and friends, and likely the last ever live music show at Ryleigh’s (they’re changing formats in the new year) will be Saturday night with locals Vintage Pistol and OKC psychedelic band, Space4Lease.
