Can you make a mean pot of gumbo? A really mean one? Maybe it’s time to put your gumbo where someone else’s mouth is.
The second annual Fayetteville Gumbo Cookoff is set for Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Washington County Fairgrounds.
Organizers Maudie Schmitt, Carla Williams, and Brandon Karn are currently seeking competitors in both professional and amateur categories for the event to compete to become the gumbo cooking champion this year. Would-be competitors can request an application at the event website.
Attendees will be able to sample the gumbos from the competing teams, and vote for their favorite in the people’s choice competition.
The event will also include live music by local jazz band, Second Line Strings, and funky-blues band, Mudhawk. Local craft brews will also be available to purchase at the event.
The fun starts at noon, and runs until 6 p.m.
Tickets are $25, and a portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the local chapter of JDRF, an organization that funds research for treatment of juvenile diabetes.
Tickets are available here. For more information, check out the event website.
