First Thursday events are scheduled return in May, officials with Experience Fayetteville announced.
The family-friendly events are held on the first Thursday of each month on the Fayetteville downtown square, and feature a combination of music, food, art and fun.
Dacre Whitaker, director of community engagement for Experience Fayetteville, said the organization is experimenting with ways to rejuvenate First Thursday.
“One way we are doing that is by alternating the large, themed festivals that take over the entire square with smaller, more intimate events,” said Whitaker. “We hope this will encourage folks to visit the shops and galleries downtown.”
The kickoff event on May 4 will be scaled back to include only the Town Center plaza and Mountain Street. The festival will return to the entire square in June. First Thursday events will run through October this year.
In the event of inclement weather, festivities will be moved inside the Fayetteville Town Center building. Free parking is available for event event in the Town Center parking deck.
