The first cartoonist ever to win the National Book Award will speak, and lead a workshop at the Fayetteville Public Library today. Graphic novelist Nate Powell will give a talk on his latest book, “Come Again,” named one of Publisher Weekly’s Top Ten graphic novels of Spring 2018 at the library at 1 p.m., and will conduct a writing workshop after that at around 2:30 p.m. Here’s more info.
Want to hear some people get roasted? The NWA Roast Battle League will be in action again Friday night, and will be dishing out some sick burns beginning at around 8:30 p.m. at Stage 18.
There’s a big hip hop show at George’s Majestic Lounge on Saturday night. It’s called the Summer Jam, hosted by DJ D. Sewell, and features more than 20 rappers, bands, dancers and singers in one giant performance. Performers include Freeza Boy, Al Nicx, Drewz Andrews, THC, On West End, and tons more. It’s been nice and cool in the morning’s lately, which makes the Farmers’ Market even better. Saturdays in Fayetteville start down there.
There’s a juggling show at the Fayetteville Public Library at 10:30 a.m., featuring performers from the Institute of Jugglology.
Music-wise, songwriter Keith Sykes is in town for a show at Sunrise Stage on College Avenue. Sykes songs have been recorded by a host of artists over the years, including John Prine, Rosanne Cash, The Judds, Jerry Jeff Walker, and others. Tickets to the show are $30.
Also Saturday night, George’s will host their annual Jerry Garcia Birthday Jam and celebration with a Grateful Dead Tributes by Forgotten Space, Friends of the Phamily and Isayah’s All-Stars.
Local band The Sherms are back together and performing again, and they’ll play at Stage 18 at around 8 p.m. Saturday night.
