Hero Half Marathon set for Oct. 14

The fourth annual Hero Half Marathon is coming up this weekend in Fayetteville.

The event, which benefits a handful of local organizations, is set to begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14.

The scenic half marathon route begins at Lokomotion near Lake Fayetteville, and continues along the city’s trail system to the finish line in downtown Fayetteville.

Anyone can participate in the race, but a special invitation is made to fire departments across the country. Special prizes are given to the top male and female firefighters who run either the half marathon while wearing their full gear, including fire helmets and air tanks.

The race is hosted by The Spark Foundation and Fayetteville Firefighters’ IAFF- Local 2866.

Registration is $80, and will be open online through 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11.
