Fayetteville’s Madison Watkins advances again on American Idol

Fayetteville native Madison Watkins this week took another step toward becoming the next American Idol.

Watkins, a former contestant on “America’s Got Talent” and “The Voice” who recently moved to Los Angeles, first punched her ticket to Hollywood Week earlier this month after performing a song written about her father.

Last week she performed a duet with fellow contestant Deshawn Goncalves, and both contestants got the green light to move forward.

On Monday’s (March 29) episode, the 25-year-old performed James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World.”

Watkins advanced again, with approval from all three of this season’s judges, including Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan.

“How do you think you did?” Richie asked Watkins after her performance.

Watkins said she felt like she did the best that she could this week.

“Well Madison, I’ve got two other judges, including myself, that agree with you,” said Richie. “You did a great job. You’re going through.”
