The Washington County Historical Society‘s upcoming ice cream social has been canceled.

The group’s board of directors made the decision due to the rise in local COVID-19 cases, according to a news release.

The 49th annual event was scheduled for Aug. 21 on the grounds of Headquarters House Museum in Fayetteville. It was set to include garden and museum tours, live music from two local bands, ice cream and other refreshments.

This is the second consecutive year that the society has canceled the event because of concerns over COVID-19.

Board members hope for improved conditions to allow the social to resume in August 2022, according to the release.
