There’s a lot happening in and around Fayetteville this weekend. A ton. A mega ton. Let me explain.
For one, legendary rapper, producer, actor, 3-on-3 basketball tournament creator, and personality Ice Cube is in town for a show at the brand new JJ’s Live in north Fayetteville on Friday night. Spidacrazy8 and Carson Attaway are also on the bill. According to the Facebook event, the show starts at 6 p.m.
George’s has local favs Leah & the Mojo Doctors for happy hour, followed by 90s tribute Dial Up later on Friday night, and funky electronic act Russ Liquid on Saturday night.
There’s a bluegrass festival at The Momentary in Bentonville. It’s called FreshGrass, and headliners include Old Crow Medicine Show, Billy Strings, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Steep Canyon Rangers, Aoife O’Donovan & Noam Pikelny, and more. Ticket info and a full schedule is here.
Music on the Mountain returns to Mount Sequoyah this weekend as well, with a Friday night show featuring local songwriter Shannon Wurst. Here’s more on that.
A show that has received raves from even national publications like the New York Times continues at TheatreSquared this weekend. The theatre’s new show Designing Women is getting attention from all over. Here’s more on tickets/how to watch.
There are big shows at the AMP as well, including a sold out performance with rapper/songwriter/actor Machine Gun Kelly on Saturday night, followed by country artist Thomas Rhett on Sunday.
Some excellent Fayetteville bands will take the stage at Prairie Street Live on Friday night. Local bands Modeling, Elephantom, and Olympics will perform at the outdoor venue on the south side of town. It’s $15 at the door, and the music starts at around 7 p.m.
The symphony is back in action as well. SoNA will perform their Voces Latinas concert at the new performing arts center inside the Fayetteville Public Library on Saturday. It’s at 6 p.m. Here’s a bit more on that.
Remember that Vanarchy in the Ozarks camper van rally we told y’all about recently? That’s happening this weekend as well in the Evelyn Hills Parking lot on Sunday. Here’s more.
The bi-annual Square to Square ride is on Saturday as well. This time it leaves from Bentonville and makes its way down to Fayetteville. Here’s more on that. Update: This has been postponed due to trail conditions after last night’s rain.
Some of the top cross country runners from around the region will be in town for the annual Chili Pepper Cross Country Festival. Here’s more.
On top of all that, the 8th ranked Razorback football team (wow, that feels good to type) are taking on the No. 2 ranked Georgia Bulldogs at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Athens, GA. It’ll be televised by ESPN. Here’s our sports writer Terry Wood’s take on the game.
