Hope y’all are feeling festive, because the holiday season kicks off in Fayetteville this weekend.
The annual holiday light show on the square, Lights of the Ozarks, gets started on Friday night with a lighting ceremony and parade. Old Santa himself will be in attendance, so it’s obviously a big deal. Here’s more on that.
Also in holiday news, Holidaze Christmas-themed bar will open their two locations on Friday night as well. They’ll be set up on Block Avenue in the old cleaners building, as well as in the Rose Garden in the Walton Arts Center again this year. Local musician Nick Shoulders will perform at the Block Avenue location on Sunday. Here’s ticket info for that.
Also in tunes, George’s has a few shows this weekend as well. They’ll kick things off with Full House for happy hour on Friday night. Later on, country songwriter William Clark Green is in town for a show at the venue Friday evening. On Sunday, the venue will host country/fusion/bluegrass/rock band, Country Jesus. Ticket info is here.
The folks behind Fayetteville Roots Festival will host a show at the Faulkner Performing Arts Center on campus this weekend. Organizers will host legendary English singer, songwriter, and guitarist Richard Thompson on Saturday night. Thompson has been called a virtuoso guitarist, and a “sharp observational singer-songwriter whose work burns with intelligence and dark emotion.” Fayetteville-based Justin Peter Kinkel-Schuster, who has performed with Water Liars, as a solo artist under Constant Stranger, and with songwriter Will Johnson as Marie/Lepanto. Ticket info is here.
How about a play? TheatreSquared has a brand new one called Marie and Rosetta opening this weekend, about Arkansas native Sister Rosetta Tharpe at her first rehearsal with a young protégée, Marie Knight. T2 also has performances of their show Tiny Beautiful Things this weekend. Ticket info to both shows is at their website.
UA Theatre also has a show opening this weekend called Marisol. Here’s more on that.
There’s more below, and you can click around down there for more info on specific shows in many cases.
Have a good weekend, everyone.
