If you like sports, this weekend in Fayetteville is for you. Some of the best athletes in the world are in town over the next couple days.
For one, the UCI Cyclo-Cross World Championships are taking place up on Centennial Mountain this weekend, with racers from 25 countries competing for the 2022 crown. There’s a team relay at noon on Friday, but the real action gets started on Saturday with races beginning at 11 a.m., culminating with the Women’s Elite Final at 2:30 p.m. Championship races continue on Sunday as well, with the Men’s Elite. Here’s the full schedule, and ticket info.
Also in sports, more world-class athletes will be in town for the Razorback Invitational track meet at the Randall Tyson Track Center. The Razorback women are currently ranked No. 1 heading into the meet. Here’s more info.
The Arkansas men’s hoops team is also in action this weekend, taking on West Virginia in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Bud Walton Arena. Here’s a preview of the game.
That’s a lot of sports.
In tunes, George’s will kick things off with a happy hour show starting at around 6 p.m. with The Nace Brothers. Later on, there’s a country show Friday night with touring artists Mike Ryan and Jacob Stelly, and locals Gin & Juice will play a 90s hip-hop tribute on Saturday night. Here’s ticket info for George’s shows.
Speaking of hip-hop, JJ’s Live also has a show this weekend with rapper/actor Ludacris. As of this morning, it looks like some tickets are available.
There’s a rock show at Nomad’s Trailside on Saturday night with a five band bill including Stash Hag, Condemn, StressDream, Heldtight and Ghost Hollow.
TheatreSquared has a new show called The Mountaintop that we’re hearing good things about. The show is a reimagination of events the night before the assassination of the civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Here’s ticket info.
Also in theatre, locals Trike Theatre will perform a version of Digging up Arkansas at Walton Arts Center on Saturday. Performances are scheduled at 2 and 4 p.m. Tickets.
