Walmart heir Rob Walton is expected to win the bidding for the Denver Broncos, according to a report from Forbes.
The $4.5 billion bid would be the most ever spent for a sports team, followed by the 2019 sale of the Brooklyn Nets for $3.2 billion.
The team is being auctioned by the Pat Bowlen Trust, which took over ownership after Pat Bowlen died in 2019. Bowlen bought the Broncos in 1984 for $71 million.
Walton, who lives in Arkansas and is the cousin-in-law of Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke, has also reportedly offered to put another $1 billion toward a new stadium in Denver.
The winning bid could be formally announced as early as this month, the report stated.
