We did not see this coming, but Friday snuck right up on us like a ninja this week. A welcome, very necessary and needed ninja. But still a ninja.
The holidays are also sneaking up like a ninja, and as a result, there are plenty of holiday-related events happening around town this weekend.
SoNA will perform a couple of their annual holiday shows this weekend, including two performances of their A Very SoNA Christmas show featuring holiday favorites on Saturday, and their kid-friendly show, The Snowman: A Family Concert on Sunday at Walton Arts Center. We wrote about that earlier this week.
TheatreSquared also has a big holiday show playing at their awesome facility downtown, with A Christmas Carol playing all weekend, along with their comedy Stones in His Pockets. Here’s more about those shows.
It’s a great weekend for music as well. Local record label Gar Hole Records will host a showcase at George’s called Gar Hole-iday feautring their impressive lineup of local and regional performers including Fayetteville songwriters Dylan Earl, Jess Harp, Willi Carlisle, and more on Friday, followed by Fayeteville/New Orleans band Nick Shoulders & the OK Crawdad, and Louisiana-based artists Daiquiri Queens (Lafayette), Chris Acker (New Orleans), The Lostines (Orleans, LA) and more on Saturday. Here’s more about that.
Also in tunes, longtime Fayetteville band Hot Shot Karate has reunited for a one-night show on Friday night with Little Rock band, Frailstate at Smoke & Barrel Tavern, and locals the Odds are back at Mojo’s Pints & Pies on Garland Friday night.
JJ’s Live has a couple big shows this weekend as well. On Friday night, they’ll host 90s country tribute Gone Country. It’s a benefit show, with all of the proceeds going to providing gifts to families in need and Fayetteville Youth Baseball. On Saturday night, they’ll host Texas country band Flatland Cavalry.
Wanna dance? West & Watson has a four-DJ bill on Friday night with D3XTR, XOLO, of faces and Uzi.
Remember that skydiving Santa event at Arkansas Air & Military Museum we mentioned recently? That’s happening on Saturday morning. Update: This event has moved to Dec. 17 due to impending weather.
The group art show at Velesero we wrote about previously is also happening this weekend. The Art Gallery at the NWA Mall also has their monthly open house this Sunday, featuring work by more that 45 local artists.
The Lights of the Ozarks are in full swing on the square. You could sing a couple tunes at Big Box Karaoke while you’re up there.
There’s tons more below. Click around on the items below for more information.
Have a great weekend, everyone.
