Weekend Flyer: Cory Branan, H-Town, Ying Yang Twins, Moulin Rouge, Mardi Gras parade, and more

It has been way too long since we’ve had a weekend around here. It’s been literally days. It is definitely time for another one.

This one in particular starts on Thursday with a sold-out show featuring country artists Colter Wall and Neil Emerson at Fayetteville Town Center. Hopefully you’ve already got tickets to this one.

Also this weekend, Walton Arts Center has a gigantic show with the “big, bold, sexy and surprising” Broadway hit, Moulin Rouge. Check out our review here, and you can check to see if there are any tickets still available here.

Also in theater, T2 has a couple more weeks left in the run of their comedy, Kim’s Convenience. The theater has a Sunday night event this week called Celebrating Black Love including poetry, music, happy hour drink specials, and more. Here’s more info.

Former Fayetteville resident Cory Branan is back in town for a show Friday night at the Heartbreak House on Block Avenue. Cory has been busy since returning to Tennessee, touring with artists like Jason Isbell, Lucero, The Gaslight Anthem, Against Me, Amigo the Devil, and many others.

George’s has some good shows this weekend as well, including a Friday night Mardi Gras happy hour featuring Ultra Suede. On Saturday, the venue will host two shows associated with the Black Music and Film Expo happening this weekend, with The Racy Brothers and Crescent City Combo in the afternoon, and Funk Factory, Branjae, Avery Sunshine, H-Town, and Ying Yang Twins to close out the night. The film portion of the expo will take place on Friday at the Town Center. On Sunday, George’s will host 5-sibling indie folk band, Dawson Hollow. Here’s ticket info to the George’s shows.

JJ’s Live has an event made just for Swiftys on Friday night. The venue will host dance/sing along event featuring Taylor Swift tunes called Best Night Ever. Details are here.

Smoke & Barrel has a good local band with Olympics along with touring acts Goon (LA) and Teethe (Dallas) on Friday night. Here’s a bit more.

How about a parade? The Fat Saturday Parade of Fools Mardi Gras parade will make its way down Dickson Street on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m., led by Grand Marshall Jerrmy Gawthrop of Wood Stone Pizza and Fayetteville Roots. Here’s more on those festivities.

If you like sports, you can check out the Razorback women’s basketball team take on Tennessee Thursday at Bud Walton, and the Razorback men’s basketball team takes on Florida at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams could really use a win.

There’s plenty more below. Click around down there for more info about anything that sounds interesting. Have a great weekend, everyone.
