A family friendly Earth Day celebration and clean up event is in the works in Fayetteville.

Fayetteville Parks & Recreation is planning a city-wide cleanup of city parks, lakes, streams, trails, and streets this year on Saturday, April 22.

The event will begin with a kickoff event featuring a proclamation by Mayor Lioneld Jordan, coffee, and bagels at around 10 a.m. at the Marion Orton Recycling Center (735 W. North Street). After the proclamation, volunteers will be given supplies and a destination as they head out to begin the cleanup.

T-shirts and Recycle Something gear will also be given to volunteers at the end of the event.

In addition to this city-sponsored event, Illinois River Waterhsed partnership is also hosting a cleanup that day. For more information about how to get involved in that event, call 479-422-5676.

Parking for the city-sponsored event is available at the St. James Missionary Baptist Church.
