With finals week wrapping up at the UA and commencement set for this weekend, things are going to get considerably quieter around here very soon once the students head home for the summer.
Not yet, though. UA Commencement ceremonies begin on Friday night, and continue through Saturday evening at Bud Walton and Barnhill Arena this weekend, which means a whole lot of parents will be in town from all over ready to party in celebration of their graduates. I guess what we’re saying is, it might be a good idea to make some reservations if you’re dining out over the next few days.
It’s also a big sports weekend, with the SEC softball tournament happening at Bogle Park, and the OmaHogs hosting three-game series with South Carolina at Baum Stadium. Again, restaurants are gonna be packed and traffic’s gonna be nuts. Fair warning.
How about some music? George’s will kick their weekend off with Noah Bowman band, American Slang, and Trent Fletcher on Thursday night, followed by local party band Ultra Suede for Friday happy hour, and local rockers (who’ll play Rocklahoma this year) 90lb Wrench on Friday night. On Saturday, they’ll be ready for graduation revelers with local party band, The Mixtapes. Tickets to the George’s shows are here.
Update: The Colton Dixon show at JJ’s Live has been cancelled.
Also in tunes, local rock band Breathing Water is back together for a show at West End on Friday night, and locals Moonsong will play at Smoke & Barrel with The Misdemeanors and Idle Valley (also on Friday).
The annual Artosphere Trail Mix concert along the Razorback Greenway is happening on Friday night in the Lower Ramble. Performers this year include The Crumbs, StoneLion Puppet Theatre, Backyard Bugs, Violin Duo- Miho Sakon and Andrew Chu, and Harpist Devanee Williams with Cellist Michael Puryear. Music starts at around 5:30 p.m.
Also part of Artosphere is the Indie Films Artosphere event in assocation with Fayetteville Film Festival featuring short films with a sustainability theme. Here’s a bit more about that.
It’s the last weekend to check out the comedy Chicken & Biscuits at TheatreSquared. Here’s a schedule and ticket info.
Sunday is Mother’s Day, so we hope all you Moms out there have the best day ever making your children wait on you hand and foot. Thanks for all y’all do.
There’s way more below. Have a great weekend, everyone.
