
Put on your weekend pants, everyone. Which definitely means shorts this time of year in Arkansas. Put on your shorts.
There are only two more chances to hang out in the park with your friends and neighbors and check out some free tunes in the summertime, and one of those is tonight (Thursday). Ashtyn Barbaree will play the Gulley Park Concert Series this week, with support by some all stars from the local School of Rock.
Speaking of music, George’s Majestic Lounge has plenty this weekend. On Thursday, you can check out a trio of female songwriters with Kim Richey, Bettysoo, and Bonnie Whitmore. On Friday night, they have a second line brass band from Tulsa called King Cabbage back in town for a show, and on Saturday you can check out local 90s tribute, The Mixtapes.
Also in tunes, local folk act Jude Brothers will celebrate the release of their new album Render Tender Blunder Sunder on Saturday night at Mount Sequoyah Center. Moriah Bailey and Kalyn Fay are also on the bill.
On Sunday, several local musicians are coming together to raise funds for the family of Clare Starr, local artist who passed away last month. Local bands The Meadow Makers, Brick Fields and The 1 oz. Jig will perform at a fundraiser set to begin at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 16 at George’s Majestic Lounge. Here’s more.
If you are reading this and you are a kid, you’ve probably already got your kid-sized calendar marked for the Firefly Fling at Botanical Garden of the Ozarks on Saturday. The event includes activities for kids, including an observation bee hive, work farm, goat petting zoo, fairy house-building station, face-painting, and more along with performances by songwriter Candy Lee, story time with animals by Jennifer Brinkley, a kids concert by Katie Dwyer, and more music by local party band, Jukeboxx. There are some big shows happening up north this week. The Momentary will host Grammy award-winning country act Brothers Osborne at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday night. There are still tickets available.
Another big show is happening at the Walmart AMP that same evening with Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa and Too $hort set to perform. Tix.
