Weekend Flyer: Fred Armisen, Trout Fishing in America, Grape Festival, mural party and more

Pardon my French, but it’s muy caliente out there, y’all. Take plenty of water breaks.

That means it is probably going to take more snow cones and grape ice cream than normal to make it through this year’s Tontitown Grape Festival, but something tells me at least some of you are up to the challenge. Here’s more info about this year’s event, including a schedule of performances. It runs through Saturday.

Speaking of heat, outdoor festivities for First Thursday on the square have been cancelled due to extreme temperatures, but there are still several art events that are still on at galleries around town. Here’s more info about those.

On Saturday morning, stop by Walker Park to see the new AND1 mural and pick up a free pair of shoes and a free basketball during a Community Celebration planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that will also include food, a DJ, a skills clinic and AND1 Mixtape players. Read more here.

JJ’s Live has a couple shows this weekend. On Thursday, country rapper Colt Ford is in town for a show with Midnight South. Friday night, they’ll celebrate the end of the Era’s tour with a Taylor Swift dance party. Here’s ticket info.

George’s Majestic Lounge has lots of good local music on the marquee this weekend. On Friday night, they’ll host jam band Green Acres, and Saturday they have a loaded bill with Opal Agafia, Aaron Kamm, Brickfields Duo, Patti Steel, and Michael Schembre. Also at George’s is a sold-out show on Sunday night with SNL alum Fred Armisen, who will perform what he calls Comedy for Musicians but Everyone is Welcome. Tickets to George’s shows are here.

Mount Sequoyah Center will celebrate 100 years of performances this weekend with a carnival starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, followed by multiple performances by beloved local duo, Trout Fishing in America. TFiA will perform their kid’s music set at 2 p.m. in Clapp auditorium, followed by a second set of original tunes at 7 p.m. near the cross overlook. Here’s more about the celebration.

Also in family-friendly celebrations, local bands Candy Lee and the Backyard Bugs and Shaky Bugs will perform together on Sunday at Prairie Street Live. There will also be a bounce and a water gun battle. Here’s a bit more about that.

There’s plenty more below. Have a great weekend, everyone.
