Walton Arts Center’s 10×10 Arts Series kicks off next week with Scythian: Ukraine to Appalachia on Sunday, Sept. 10. The 10×10 Arts Series is popular at Walton Arts Center not only because the tickets to every show are only $10 each, but because this series brings new and diverse sounds, voices and faces to the Northwest Arkansas stage – encouraging community members to explore the endless possibilities of art and try something new!

Named after Ukrainian nomads, Scythian specializes in roots music from Celtic, Eastern European and Appalachian traditions with thunderous energy, technical prowess and storytelling songwriting, beckoning crowds into a barn-dance, rock concert experience. Nashville’s Music City Roots says Scythian is “what happens when rock star charisma meets Celtic dervish fiddling,” and the Washington Post claims, “Scythian’s enthusiasm is contagious, and shows seem to end with everyone dancing, jumping around or hoisting glasses.” Some critics even say you must catch a live show to understand the true nature of Scythian. “The playing is technically brilliant, but it is the energy that carries the day” (The Camel City Dispatch).

The four members of Scythian bring together various influences steeped in folk traditions – from Ukrainian folk music and bluegrass to ‘60s and ‘70s folk-rock, Cajun and Celtic-Americana – a blend that keeps audiences entertained and moving. Their new tour, Ukraine to Appalachia, is a special one. Scythian tells an immigrant story, weaving the Carpathian lore of their ancestors with their newfound home in Appalachia, resonating with the mountain music tradition that each region has conveyed in such distinct, yet familiar strains. While the melodies and the tones play out differently, it’s the spirit that remains the same, and Scythian weaves these traditions into an interactive and uplifting musical experience, bringing audiences together and on their feet.

Scythian: Ukraine to Appalachia comes to Walton Arts Center for one night only on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 7pm. Tickets are just $10 each at
