The University of Arkansas will honor the late Ryan Mallett and Alex Collins by painting their initials on the home sideline during all football games at Razorback Stadium during the 2023 season.

The decision was announced by Arkansas athletics director Hunter Yurachek in a social media post on Tuesday.

“Beginning Saturday & throughout the 2023 season, we are paying tribute to former @RazorbackFB greats (#3) Alex Collins & (#15) Ryan Mallett with their initials painted at the 3- and 15-yard lines on the home sideline of Frank Broyles Field,” wrote Yurachek.

Both former players died this summer. Mallett drowned while swimming in the ocean on vacation in Destin, Fla. in June. He was 35. Collins was killed in a motorcycle accident in Lauderdale Lakes, Fla. in August. He was 28.

Yurachek later posted news that the family of the late Chris Smith will join the team as honorary captains for Arkansas’ home game against Auburn on Nov. 11. Smith is another former Razorback who died earlier this year.

The three former players, along with football commit Dion Stutts, were honored last weekend before the Razorbacks’ game against Western Carolina in Little Rock. Stutts died in an apparent ATV accident in Mississippi in June. He was 18.
