43-year-old Fayetteville man dies in multi-vehicle crash

A 43-year-old Fayetteville man was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Mount Comfort Road on Saturday, according to a preliminary police report.

Shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday, a 2012 Honda was stopped in the eastbound lane of West Mount Comfort Road while waiting to make a left turn into a driveway, the report states. A second vehicle – a 2014 Honda – was stopped behind the first vehicle.

A 2008 Ford was approaching behind the two other stopped vehicles in the eastbound lane but “failed to observe” them. The third vehicle swerved left into the second Honda and then entered the opposite lane where it struck a 2003 Harley Davidson head-on.

The driver of the motorcycle, 43-year-old Zachary Salley, of Fayetteville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Fayetteville police officer investigating the crash reported that the weather was clear and the road was dry at the time.
