Arkansas sweeps LSU with 7-5 victory in series finale

Peyton Stovall’s two-run home run sealed a 7-5 victory for No. 1 Arkansas (23-3, 8-1 SEC) over No. 8 LSU (20-9, 2-7 SEC) on Saturday afternoon at Baum-Walker Stadium.

The win completed a series sweep for the Razorbacks, who have won four of the last five weekend series against LSU. It was also the second consecutive home weekend series sweep against the Tigers. The team swept LSU in Fayetteville in 2022.

Arkansas improved to an 8-1 record in SEC play, matching their best start in the conference under head coach Dave Van Horn since 2009 and setting a new program record with a 17-game winning streak at Baum-Walker Stadium. The previous record was 16 games in 1997 under coach Norm DeBriyn.

The game started with both teams exchanging solo home runs in the first inning. LSU initially took a 3-1 lead, but Arkansas rallied with a three-run inning in the fourth to tie the game.

The Razorbacks’ bullpen effectively contained LSU’s offense, setting the stage for Arkansas’ offense to secure the lead with another three-run inning in the sixth, highlighted by Stovall’s two-run homer.

Stovall and Ty Wilmsmeyer led the offensive charge, with Stovall boosting his season statistics to a team-best .364/.446/.636. Arkansas’ pitching staff, with Koty Frank earning his first win of the season and Will McEntire securing his third save, held LSU to five runs.
