The Fayetteville Public Library will honor retiring director Louise Schaper during a drop-in reception on Sunday, Oct. 25 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the library’s lobby.
The public is invited to attend the reception which is hosted by the Fayetteville Public Library’s Board of Trustees, Friends of the Library and FPL Foundation.

Schaper, after serving as executive director of the Fayetteville Public Library for 12 years, announced her plans to leave in mid-May. Her retirement is effective Oct. 30.
Shortly after the announcement, a committee consisting of Dan Ferritor, Marla Hunt and Mike Malone was formed to search for a new leader.
Last month, current Director of Operations Shawna Thorup was unanimously selected from a list of applicants from across the nation to replace Schaper as Executive Director.
Thorup, 40, has been with the library since 2005. She previously worked at the Torrance Public Library (Calif.) and the Los Angeles Public Library.
