Weekend To-do: July 9-11

I hope you guys had a good week.

I hope you spent the last five days in Hawaii, drinking Mai Tais out of a coconut. Or hanging out with friends on patios with chips and salsa and frosty beverages.

Maybe you spent the last week on a boat, in a hammock, or in a pool? I hope so.

For me, the last five days have been like a five-day Chuck Norris groin punch on repeat, and for that, I don’t know that I’ve ever been more glad to see a Friday in all of my years on planet earth.

It’s the weekend. Finally. Celebrate.

Friday

Stillwater, OK’s Flatland Travelers, who you may have seen a month or so ago at Wakarusa, are at Smoke & Barrel Friday night along with Springfield, MO’s Hundred Hand String Band. Sounds like a big ole’ bluegrass party.

Feeling like punk rock instead? More touring bands are at Boom Boom Room with Number 9 Hard (Milwaukee, WI) and Benedict Arnold (St. Louis, MO). Locals Dreamfast and Well, Well, Well will open the show.

How about some metal? Origin, Gigian, Macrocosm (Fort Smith, AR), and locals Vore and Razorfate are at Drifters.

There’s an art show at Ultra Studios featuring the work of Poly-Artist Xi Krump, with music by Big Bad Gina.

You could also check out the opening of the brand new Whole Earth Organic Lounge with tunes by David Kimbrough, Jr., and free food from Lean Green Cuisine.

Saturday

Saturday is a big day. You might want to get an early start on your shopping at the Farmers’ Market.

Youthbridge’s annual Breakfast Boogie is going down at East Square Plaza this year, which will be convenient for your market routine. Breakfast starts at 9 a.m., Contagious will begin rocking at 10:30 a.m., and they’ve added a children’s carnival this year as well.

There are two all-ages shows Saturday night, with Samurai Luncheon, Reese Neal and Skyler Gambert at the Warehouse, and The Showcase has Daedalos and Durham.

There is an awesome-sounding show happening at George’s Saturday night. Lez Zeppelin (with a Z), an all-female Led Zeppelin tribute band is at George’s. They are also, apparently, legit. Check out some videos on their website.

There’s also a giant show at Smoke & Barrel Saturday night. After a brief hiatus, Fort Smith three-piece A+ Setup has reunited, and they’ll be playing with Cold Mold, Perpetual Werewolf, and Transmography (Austin, TX).

Sunday

If you missed the Joseph Israel show at the Town Center Thursday night, you can check him out in the garden at George’s Sunday night. Andy Frasco is in the lounge for free for Monster Mug night, too.

Audible Chocolate has moved from the regular Saturday afternoon slot at Rogue to Sunday this week. Ben Armstrong will be spinning some Sunday night chilling tunes.

Smoke & Barrel has another one of their movie nights Sunday night, this time with a marathon of Marx Brothers flicks.

There’s a ton more below, and feel free to let us know what we missed. What are you guys doing this weekend?
