If you’re into virtuoso guitar playing, the show for you is at 324 Ballroom Friday night. It’s another of Pickin’ Post host Mike Shirkey’s shows, featuring guitar duo Loren Barrigar & Mark Mazengarb. There really aren’t words to describe how good these guys are. Just watch this. The show starts at 8 p.m., and admission is $15.

Fayetteville Public Library will host a screening of the Levon Helm documentary “Ain’t In it for My Health” at 6:45 p.m. Friday night, followed by a panel discussion featuring those who knew him. Featured panelists, moderated by KUAF news director and “Ozarks at Large” host Kyle Kellams, include: Anna Lee Amsden, Helm’s lifelong friend and the “Anna Lee” mentioned in The Band song, “The Weight”; Earl Cate of The Cate Brothers Band; Terry Cagle, Helm’s nephew and drummer for The Cate Brothers Band; and Junior Markham, a friend of Helm’s who also performed with him in the 1960s.

For happy hour, locals Big Uns will return to George’s for an after work performance at 6 p.m. Later on, Andy Crasco and Speakeasy will perform.

Also Friday night, Damn Arkansan is back at Smoke & Barrel Friday night with Joplin, Mo songwriter Carter Hulsey, and Surf De Soleil is at The Phoenix.

Saturday Events, Aug. 10

The Razorbacks will host their first scrimmage of the fall on Saturday, and after originally planning for it to be closed to the public, head coach Bret Bielema has decided to open it to fans and media. According to a Tweet he posted Friday, the scrimmage will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Razorback Stadium. Admission is free.

Music wise, there’s a metal show at The Lightbulb Club with locals Auric, DJ EJ will perform a set at Smoke & Barrel in honor of the 40th anniversary of hip hop, and there will be jamming at Kingfish with Toe Funk Jam Band.

Chris Legg

Bob Kramer Incident and Lil’ Hoojin bass player Chris Legg passed away back in April, and both bands are coming together to perform a benefit for Legg’s family Sunday afternoon at George’s. Doors open at 2 p.m. and the show starts at 3 p.m. Admission is a $5 donation, and all of the proceeds go to Chris’ family.
