Fayetteville seeks four new Planning Commission members

Planning Commission meeting on Jan. 24, 2022 / Fayetteville Government Channel

FAYETTEVILLE — The Planning Commission will have an additional new member this spring after the election of one commissioner to the City Council.

Turnover on the commission is usually limited to three new members each year, but commissioner Mike Wiederkehr will move to the City Council after winning the Feb. 8 special election.

Wiederkehr, 65, defeated challengers Leslie Belden and Kristen Scott to take over the Ward 2, Position 2 seat left vacant by Matthew Petty, who resigned in October.

Wiederkehr began serving on the commission in 2021. His unexpired position runs through March 31, 2024.

The Planning Commission is comprised of nine members, who each serve two-year terms. Three new members are selected each year by the City Council’s Nominating Committee.

Other outgoing members on the commission this year include Leslie Belden, Mary Madden and Robert Sharp.

The deadline to apply for positions in the current quarter was Feb. 18.
