New details and a handful of images have emerged from a movie filmed in Fayetteville last summer.

The new film, starring Martin Lawrence and Academy Award-winner John Malcovich, is called “Mindcage,” and was shot largely in and around Fayetteville last August. The film also stars Melissa Roxburgh, best known for her work on the Netflix series “Manifest.”

According to an article on entertainment news site Collider last week, the film is being described as a crime thriller in the vein of 90s films like Silence of the Lambs and Se7en.

From the article:

Mindcage is reported to be a gripping thriller that sees detectives Jake Doyle (Lawrence) and Mary Kelly, played by actress Melissa Roxburgh (Manifest), investigating a slew of murders. When it’s discovered that these killings aren’t random, but copycat murders of an infamous serial killer, Jake and Mary determine the best course of action to get a step ahead is to peer into the mind of the original killer known as The Artist (Malkovich). Enlisting his help in prison, Mary attempts to tap into the twisted psyche of Malkovich’s Artist as she and Jake are dragged into these two killers’ diabolical game.

The film is directed by Mauro Borrelli, who wrote and directed the 2017 Sci-Fi film “TheRecall” starring Wesley Snipes. Borrelli has also provided concept art for a number of films, including the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, “Captain America, Star Wars: Episode VIII,” and others.

The movie was written by Reggie Keyohara III.

Local casting director Mark Landon Smith worked on the film, and a handful of local actors are listed in the credits, including Barry Clifton, Laura Shatkus, and others.

The Collider story also included 14 new images from the film. We didn’t recognize any specific places in the images, but a Washington County Sheriff’s vehicle is visible in one of the photos.

Downtown Fayetteville, the Spring Street parking deck, Evergreen Cemetery, and downtown Springdale are a few locations the cast and crew were spotted filming when they were in town last summer.

It’s been a busy season for movies being filmed in the Northwest Arkansas area. Actors Meg Ryan and David Duchovny were spotted at Northwest Arkansas National Airport last week working on a film titled “What Happens Later,” and a movie starring Justin Long and Kate Bosworth that was filmed in Fayetteville was released last month.

“Mindcage” is currently in post production, and no release date has been set as of this month. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
