The Razorback baseball team may have kicked off their season last weekend, and sure, they played a mid-week game versus Grambling earlier this week, but the first weekend baseball series at Baum Stadium officially starts on Friday, and that in itself (as Hog fans know) is kind of like a national holiday around here. The Hogs take on Eastern Illinois in a three-game series that kicks off at 2 p.m. on Friday. Go Hogs.
Also in sports, there is Razorback softball this weekend as well, as the Hogs plays Arizona and Drake at Bogle Park beginning Thursday evening, and there is a home gymnastics meet on Friday night versus Missouri.
George’s will kick off the weekend with a happy hour show featuring local favorites, Full House. Later on, Grateful Dead / Talking Heads tribute band The Grateful Talking Dead Heads will perform on Friday night, and there’s a big show Saturday night with Larkin Poe and Zach Person. On Sunday, the venue will host a benefit for longtime local singer Ocie Fisher who suffered a stroke recently. The event will include performances by her band, members of Divas on Fire, the St. James Gospel Tribute, and special guests. Here’s a bit more info.
Also in music this weekend, local songwriter Randall Shreve will perform at Tin Roof at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night, The Odds will play Mojo’s East at 7 p.m. on Friday, and Colorado-based artist Blackdog will play at Nomad’s at 8 p.m. on Saturday backed by Adams Collins of Arkansauce, and others.
There’s also a free show on Sunday with acoustic quartet The Velvet Crowns performing Fayetteville Public Library’s Mountain Street Stage series at 2 p.m.
In theater, your best bet is TheaterSquared who is hosting the final weekend of performances for their latest comedy hit, Kim’s Convenience. If there are any tickets left, here’s where to get them.
There’s more where this came from in the list below. Have a great weekend, everyone.
