Arkansas Pottery Festival returns to Fayetteville May 5-7

A celebration of Arkansas pottery will soon return to Fayetteville for a second year.

Community Creative Center will host the second annual Arkansas Pottery Festival May 5-7 at locations in and around Fayetteville.

The event will kick off on Friday, May 5 at Community Creative Center with an all day sale and exhibition of handmade works by more than seventy-five artists as well as a masterworks showcase featuring teapots from private collections created by nationally-known artists. There will also be pottery demonstrations and a lecture by visiting artist Wes Brown, Ceramics Professor from the University of Dayton, Ohio. A flower pot sale and benefit with the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks will also take place throughout the festival, with more than 150 hand-made flower pots that come with a free plant from the BGO with each purchase.

On Saturday, the event continues at CCC with more pottery demonstrations by Brown, a potters potluck and cook out, music by Los Veleros, and a a keynote lecture by visiting author and scholar David Gifford of Niloak Pottery about the history of pottery production in Northwest Arkansas.

On Sunday, the festival will migrate off site to tour the new U of A School of Art Annex, and visit the Historic Cane Hill Museum Open House for Niloak and Beyond: an exhibition of 20th century American Swirlware pottery at Historic Cane Hill, co curated by David Gifford and Lawrence Mc Elroy. Also on Sunday, Walton Arts Center will host Sangeet Gupta: Wood Fired Vessels along with the U of A School of Art Ceramics Exhibition.

Vendor booths include Osage Pottery, Little Mulberry Pottery, Mecca Tools, Dickson Street Bookshop, & The Clay Bank.
