A Little Rock-based Steinway & Sons dealer this week announced an expansion into Northwest Arkansas that includes a new piano showroom in Fayetteville.

The new store is located at 4155 N. Steel Blvd., and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and by appointment. The shop handles sales and service for Steinway pianos, including the Steinway-designed Boston and Essex pianos.

The Fayetteville store will feature a retail showroom as well as a performance space for recitals and events.

Owner Stephen Wirges, a piano technician and tuner who has represented Steinway in Arkansas since 2012, said he’s been coming to Northwest Arkansas since he was a child to listen to folk music, and decided to open a second store after seeing a growing interest in classical and jazz across the region.

“Bringing Steinway to Fayetteville is an opportunity to contribute to the long tradition of music in the Ozarks,” said Wirges. “We’re looking forward to many years of local musical partnerships.”

A grand opening is set for Friday, May 5 with a reception that will include musical performances by jazz artist Matt Nelson, as well as Tomoko Kashiwagi, an associate professor of piano at the University of Arkansas.
