Kessler’s Saddle Up trail closed until September

(City of Fayetteville)

The Saddle Up trail at Kessler Mountain Regional Park will be closed to the public through September while crews work to improve drainage and convert it into an accessible trail to accommodate the adaptive cycling community.

The planned improvements for the 1.2-mile trail include the addition of rock armoring, boardwalks, bridges, and sculpting the trail to a minimum width of 4 feet.

The enhancements aim to address the persistent drainage issues that have made the trail inaccessible during heavy rainfall, while providing a local option for adaptive mountain bikers.

Trail users can still access the park’s remaining 16 miles of natural-surface trails through existing trailheads located near the Rotary Playground and the northernmost baseball parking lot.

The project is partially funded by a grant awarded in 2021 from the Arkansas Department of Transportation.
