Today is the last day of classes for students at the UA before finals begin next week, and as we noted last week, it’s just a very, very busy time of year in Fayetteville. Soak it all in, because summer will be here soon, and things will likely slow down a bit at that point.
Until then, it’s gonna be crazy.
There’s cool music all weekend, beginning on Thursday night this week. JJ’s Live has a big show on Thursday with Dallas-based rock band, The Toadies. Here’s ticket info. Also on Thursday, Smoke & Barrel Tavern will host Seattle-based indie act Unwed Sailor along with Los Angeles songwriter zzzahara and excellent locals, Modeling.
Also on Thursday, Little Rock rapper Big Piph will host a screening of his film series in association with the Arkansas Cinema Society in the Great Hall at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Here’s more.
There are a few festivals happening this weekend. Mount Sequoyah Center will host their first-ever art, music, and mentorship festival called AMMPLIFY all day on Saturday. The event will include music by Adam Faucett, Bonnie Montgomery, Tylo May, JT London, and others, along with art openings, film screenings, panel discussions, a food truck court, local brews, and more. Community Creative Center will host their annual Arkansas Pottery Festival this weekend as well. The event will include pottery demonstrations and a lecture by visiting artist Wes Brown, Ceramics Professor from the University of Dayton, Ohio, a keynote lecture by visiting author and scholar David Gifford of Niloak Pottery, a potters potluck and cook out, music by Los Veleros, and more. The Hispanic Women’s Organization of Arkansas will host the Cinco de Mayo Festival from 12-7 p.m. Saturday at The Jones Center in Springdale with live music, dancing and food.
The annual Square to Square bike ride will return on Saturday as well. The spring ride starts in Fayetteville and finishes in Bentonville. Here’s more about that.
How about a show? Walton Arts Center will host performances of the classic musical Annie Friday-Sunday. Time is running out to see TheatreSquared’s hit comedy Chicken & Biscuits, and local comedy improv troupe Phunbags will perform at Six Twelve Coffeehouse & Bar at 7 p.m. on Saturday night.
George’s has shows on Friday with Leah & the Mojo Doctors for happy hour followed by Wreckno late night, the “Feel Better Bash” on Saturday with Rochelle Bradshaw, Rachel Ammons, and The 1 Oz. Jig on Saturday, Korey McKelvy and Doctor Junior on Sunday. Tickets.
JJ’s Live has a couple other shows outside of aforementioned Toadies show this weekend as well, including a Bad Bunny dance party on Friday and local 90s tribute Dial Up on Saturday. Here’s ticket info.
Ozark Natural Foods also has a concert this weekend. They’re hosting a free concert for their members featuring local band, Monk is King.
Also on Saturday, the annual Washington Elementary Tour of Homes is happening, The Farmers’ Market is back on the square Saturday morning, it’s Free Comic Book Day at the library, and the annual Cow Paddy Run benefitting the Fayetteville Public Education Foundation is happening at Gulley Park.
On Sunday night, local pinball bar Pinpoint is celebrating 5 years in business with live DJs on the patio, food, $5 specials all day long and giveaways including a pinball machine. Here’s more info.
