Smith defeats Clouse in Fayetteville School Board election

Director Keaton Smith was re-elected to serve another five-year term on the Fayetteville Board of Education on Tuesday night.

In final, unofficial results released this evening, Smith received 3,010 votes (76%) to defeat challenger Heather Clouse who received 945 votes (24%) for the at large position 2 spot on the board. Smith led Clouse by a 86% to 14% in early and absentee ballots released shortly after polls closed this evening.

In all, 3,965 votes were cast in the Fayetteville school board election.

The election also included a district-wide vote to continue the existing school milage, set at 45.65 mills. The extension passed with 3,107 votes (82%) to 695 votes (18%), according to unofficial results.

In all, 6,323 votes were cast in Washington County Elections Tuesday.
