Auction to benefit local artist Chad Maupin

A longtime local illustrator and organizer of art markets has been experiencing some challenges with his health, and several local artists will soon hold a fundraiser to help him out.

The event, called ‘Chadywampus,’ will raise money for local artist Chad Maupin, who has been diagnosed with a debilitating lung disease. The event is set for Saturday, July 8 at Millar Lodge on the campus of Mount Sequoyah Center.

Maupin is one of the most talented illustrators working in Fayetteville, and his artwork has appeared on countless t-shirts, beer cans, posters, and more over the years. He’s also organized several local arts and crafts markets, including the Wampus Wonderland holiday show, Death Ray Print and Illustration Expo, and others.

Maupin was diagnosed with Non-Specific Interstitial Pneumonia earlier this year after experiencing symptoms most of 2022, according to a GoFundMe created by his daughter. Maupin is traveling to Mayo Clinic this month, and proceeds from the fundraiser will help offset those travel costs.

The event will include an art auction featuring work by local artists emceed by Chris ‘Clunk’ Selby, along with beer from Fossil Cove Brewing, music, food, and more.

All of the proceeds from the event will go directly to the Maupin family to help pay for medical expenses and travel expenses as he undergoes treatment.

The event begins at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door.
