Dog-themed First Thursday coming to the square this week

I think it was a copywriter working on a Facebook event for Experience Fayetteville who said it best when they said, “First Thursday? More like First FURSday!”

In other words, this month’s First Thursday outdoor festival on the square has gone to the dogs.

This month’s event has a dog theme, and in addition to the art walk, food trucks, beer garden, kid zone, and other regular festivities locals have come to expect at First Thursday, the party will include a pet pageant, a pet food drive, puppy portraits, a paint-by-paw activity, and more for locals and their furry little buddies to enjoy.

The pet pageant will take place on the main stage, and will be emceed by Anthony Taylor as local puts compete for a host of prizes.

Officials are asking for donations for the pet food drive that can be dropped of at Experience Fayetteville Visitors Center, Fayetteville City Hall, or any Fayetteville Fire Department station in advance of the event Thursday night. The donations will benefit Ranger’s Pantry, a local pet food bank operated by the city of Fayetteville.

Graduate Fayetteville will be on hand with a pup portrait station at their booth on the square as well.

Food trucks expected this month include Beavertails, Flavorful Kettle Corn, Nautical Bowls, Shobo’s Kitchen, and Smackin’ Shack.

As always, several local art and craft vendors will be set up around the square selling their wares.

Local galleries will host openings and receptions to coincide with the event as well. Fenix Fayetteville will host a new group show featuring their resident artists called “Chill,” Creative Spaces at Mount Sequoyah will showcase the work of local sculptor South Walker, and Art Ventures has a new show called “Natural Geometries” featuring work by artist Martín Morales.

The event runs from 5:30 p.m. until around 9 p.m. For a bit more information, check out the Facebook event.
