FAYETTEVILLE — The city will celebrate the beginning of a renovation project this week at the Lake Fayetteville softball complex.

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 18 the complex in North Fayetteville.

The event was originally scheduled for last week, but was postponed due to inclement weather.

The project will include an overhaul to the area’s stormwater drainage system, along with adding new fencing, backstops, dugouts, bleachers, security lighting and improving accessibility at the complex.

The work is expected to be completed in March 2024 in time for the spring softball league.

During the project, restroom facilities for trail users still will be available at Veterans Memorial Park, the Lake Fayetteville Marina and the North Shore park area.

“Lake Fayetteville has a long history of serving the community as a softball facility for league and tournament play,” said Byron Humphry, parks operations director. “To meet the needs of our growing community, these upgrades will bring new life to an aging facility to accommodate both youth and adult softball for years to come.”

The project will be paid for through funding from the 2019 Park Improvement Bond approved by Fayetteville voters.
