Music Education Initiative to honor local musician, promoter Brian Crowne

A longtime local musician, promoter and live music advocate is set to be honored in Fayetteville this weekend.

Former saxophone player with Oreo Blue, owner of George’s Majestic Lounge, and Walmart AMP VP Brian Crowne will receive a Friend of the Community Award at an event hosted by the Music Education Initiative on Friday, Aug. 25 at the Fayetteville Public Library.

The event is a fundraiser for the initiative, an organization that aims to “engage, educate, elevate and prepare, the next generation of professionals in the business of music and entertainment,” according to the group’s website.

Local all-female supergroup Divas on Fire and The Tina Cossey Band will perform during the event. In addition, a live auction is planned with items like a trip to Italy and a DJ party package.

The event begins at 6 p.m.
